The Institute of Industrial Crops of Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU) was founded in 1950 and covers more than 70 hectares. The institute focuses on research related to oil crops, grain crops, and wheat industrial crops. Its oil crops research includes soybean, peanut, sesame, sunflower, industrial hemp, and castor. In the area of grain crops, the institute conducts research on millet, sorghum, and various beans, while its wheat industrial crops work encompasses Chinese medicinal materials, long yam, and fruit tree seedlings. Additionally, the institute is involved in agricultural products post-processing and animal science research.
The institute is equipped with 15 laboratories dedicated to specific areas of research. These include the Taiyuan Comprehensive Laboratory, Soybean Laboratory, Millet Laboratory, Medicinal Plant Laboratory, Sunflower Laboratory, Industrial Cannabis Laboratory, Sesame Laboratory, Peanut Laboratory, Sorghum Laboratory, Castor Laboratory, Miscellaneous Bean Laboratory, Wheat Laboratory, Agricultural Products Processing Laboratory, Economic Forest Laboratory, and Animal Science Laboratory.
