The Institute of Plant Protection at the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) operates seven scientific research centers: Disease Research Center, Insect and Rodent Pest Research Center, Resistance Identification and Evaluation Center, Pesticide and Weed Research Center, Biological Control Research Center, Scientific and Technological Achievement Transformation Center, and Biological Safety Research Center. It also maintains three national and provincial scientific research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Southwest Crop Pest Comprehensive Control of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Institute is the only provincial public scientific research institution in Sichuan specializing in crop disease, insect, weed, rodent, and pesticide research. Its key functions include crop pest monitoring and early warning, research on pest hazard patterns, disaster mechanisms, and prevention technologies; evaluation of crop resistance to pests and diseases, screening of resistance sources; identification and biosafety assessment of plant pests and invasive species; evaluation of pesticide efficacy, residue, environmental impact, and resistance; and research on modern plant protection technologies and green agricultural products. It also offers pest control consulting, planning, training services, and the transformation of research achievements.
