The Institute of Soil, Fertilizer and Environmental Resources at Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZAAS), which evolved from the agricultural chemistry section of the Zhejiang Agricultural Experiment Farm in 1908, is a research institution dedicated to addressing major scientific issues in farmland quality improvement, efficient nutrient utilization, and environmental remediation in rural areas. The institute’s research includes technologies for farmland preservation, fertility improvement, and ecological management. It hosts the MARA National Soil Quality Monitoring Station in Jiaxing, the Zhejiang Biochar Engineering Center, the Soil Museum, the Agricultural Equipment Testing Center, and a Pilot Base for New Fertilizers. With over 100 experimental bases across the province, the institute demonstrates a range of technologies related to green manure selection, organic fertilizer utilization, waste recycling, eco-control of soil pollution, and water-saving practices in agriculture.
