The Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS) – 江苏省农业科学院 operates directly under the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government. The academy comprises 28 research institutes, with 16 located in Nanjing and 12 situated in district cities. With over 2,200 employees, including 786 holding senior titles, the academy is recognized for its achievements in agricultural research.
JAAS has made significant contributions to the development of high-yield and disease-resistant crop varieties, including “Xu Yatah 18”, the “Yangmai” series, “Two Excellent Peijiu”, and the “South Japonica” series. It is also known for its advancements in immunization vaccines and other major agricultural technologies. The academy publishes the English-language periodical Food Production Processing and Nutrition, which is included in the ESCI index.
JAAS has forged strategic cooperation agreements with international organizations such as the FAO and has established partnerships with over 120 overseas universities and scientific research institutions, especially in countries involved in the “Belt and Road” initiative. It has also attracted more than 150 foreign high-level experts to contribute to its innovation efforts. Furthermore, JAAS led the creation of the Provincial Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance and the National Cooperative Innovation Alliance for the Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Wheat Germ Plague.
