Maize Research Institute

The Maize Research Institute of Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU) was established in 1950. It specializes in molecular biology, genetic breeding, farming and cultivation techniques, and plant protection. The institute also serves as the supporting institution for several national and regional research initiatives. These include the National Corn Industry Technology System’s Xinzhou Comprehensive Experimental Station, the National Plant Protection Xinzhou Observation Experimental Station, and the Maize Research Institute sub-station of the Comprehensive Test Station of Crop Varieties of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in Central Shanxi province. The institute is involved in the Shanxi Corn Industry Technology System and collaborates with the Shanxi Agricultural University’s Institute of Coarse Grains in a joint project with the Xinzhou Municipal People’s Government.

The institute has 124 employees and oversees a total land area of 2,350 mu dedicated to scientific research and experimentation. The land includes the Tancun base (1,400 mu), Anyi base (525 mu), and Wuzhai base (425 mu).
