The Maize Research Institute of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GXAAS) was founded in 1963. The institute focuses primarily on the selection and breeding of new varieties of maize, sweet potato, and other crops, as well as the research and development of new technologies and the popularization and application of new achievements. The institute currently employs 76 people.
The Maize Research Institute is home to 9 scientific research teams, including 8 focused on maize research and 1 on yams. Additionally, the institute operates 15 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, such as the Guangxi Branch of the National Corn Improvement Center and the Key Laboratory of Germplasm Resource Innovation and Utilization of Grain Crops under MARA.
