Founded in 1963 by Professor Yang Yunkui, a renowned corn genetics breeder, the Maize Research Institute at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) currently employs 60 staff members. The institute primarily focuses on corn genetics and breeding, crop genetics, and graduate training in biochemistry and molecular biology. It operates five research laboratories: Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Cell Engineering, Quantitative Genetics and Bioinformatics, and Corn Breeding. The institute has developed several corn varieties, including “Sichuan Dan” and “Rongyu”.
