The history of Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU) – 南京农业大学 can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School, a teacher training center founded in 1902, and the Faculty of Agriculture of the Private University of Nanjing, established in 1914. In 1952, NAU was officially established as Nanjing Agricultural College through the merger of the agricultural faculties of Nanjing University and National Central University, along with several departments from the Agricultural College of Zhejiang University. In 2000, NAU was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Education.
NAU comprises 18 colleges, including the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Plant Protection, College of Resources and Environmental Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Food Science and Technology, and the School of Economics and Management. The university has over 25,000 full-time students, including 17,000 undergraduates and 8,500 postgraduates.
NAU is home to several provincial, ministerial, and national-level research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Germplasm Enhancement, the National Center of Meat Quality and Safety Control, the National Engineering Research Center for Organic-Based Fertilizers, the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Rural Land Utilization and Remediation, and the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Green Pesticide Invention and Application.
Currently, NAU maintains partnerships with over 150 universities and research institutes across 30 countries. The university has also launched joint education programs with renowned universities such as UC Davis, Reading University (UK), and the University of Western Australia. Additionally, NAU has established several international collaborative research platforms, including the Sino-US Joint Research Center for Food and Quality, the NAU-Cornell International Technology Transfer Center, and the International Reference Laboratory for Swine Streptococcus Disease Diagnosis.
