Founded in 1934 in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) – 西北农林科技大学 – was the first institution of higher education in agriculture and forestry in Northwest China. In 1999, seven major institutions—the Northwest Agriculture University, Northwest Forestry College, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Northwest Institute of Water Resources Design, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry, and Northwest Institute of Botany—merged to form today’s NWAFU, which is recognized as one of China’s key national comprehensive universities.
NWAFU comprises 27 colleges and postgraduate schools and offers a broad range of disciplines, including Agricultural Sciences, Plant and Animal Science, Engineering, Environmental Science and Ecology, Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Microbiology, and Geoscience.
In collaboration with the Yangling Demonstration Zone, NWAFU has jointly established the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Cooperation Base.
