The Potato Research Institute of Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS) was established in 2006. It is a professional scientific research institution integrating potato germplasm resource conservation and evaluation and utilization, breeding technology and variety selection, cultivation physiology and cultivation technology, seed potato detoxification and tissue culture rapid propagation, soilless cultivation and seed potato breeding, pest and disease prevention and control, and water and fertilizer efficient utilization research and achievement transformation and scientific and technological services.
It has 30 employees and a laboratory area of 840.96 square meters, including a smart greenhouse of 5,000 square meters, a seed potato storage cellar of 3,400 square meters, an insect-proof net shed of 20 mu, and a fine seed breeding base of 2,000 mu.

- Gansu Province Potato Germplasm Resources Innovation Engineering Laboratory
- Gansu Province Potato Virus-free Seed Potato (Seedling) Virus Detection and Safety Evaluation Engineering Technology Research Center
- Gansu Province International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Innovative Utilization of Potato Germplasm Resources and Virus-free Seed Potato Breeding Technology
The Institute has collected and preserved more than 1,500 germplasm resources and has bred 50 potato varieties of the Longshu series. It has a leading position in China in the selection and breeding of high-starch and disease-resistant varieties.
