The Rice and Sorghum Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) was founded in 1937. The institute is mainly engaged in the research and cultivation of new varieties of rice, sorghum, vegetables, corn, and other crops, as well as research and services on improved varieties, methods, and post-production processing supporting technologies. It is the Sichuan Luzhou Branch of the National Rice Improvement Center, the Southwest Key Laboratory of Rice Biology and Genetic Breeding of MARA, the Super Rice Original Seed Expansion Base of MARA, the Sorghum Original Seed Expansion Base of MARA, and the National Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System.
The institute consists of five scientific research institutions: the Rice Research Center, Sorghum Research Center, Biotechnology Research Center, Economic Crop Research Center, and the Achievements and Technology Integration Demonstration Center.
