Founded in 1936, the Rice Research Institute was officially established in 1988 and has since become a key institution for rice research. Its focus areas include rice germplasm resource innovation, functional genomics, genetic breeding, cultivation physiology, and seed engineering and technology. The institute is a crucial part of the National Key Laboratory, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, and the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture.
It hosts several prestigious teams, including the Ministry of Agriculture’s “Rice Germplasm Improvement and Innovative Utilization in the Upper Yangtze River” team, the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Research Team, the Tianfu Granary Innovation Team, and the Sichuan International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Rice Genetics and Breeding.
The institute currently employs 40 staff members.
