The Sericulture (and Pepper) Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences was founded in 1938 and is located in Jinxin Community, Huaxi District, Guiyang City.
The institute mainly focuses on the identification and evaluation of sericulture and pepper germplasm resources, material innovation, and new variety breeding. It also works on ecological cultivation and the diversified utilization of mulberry trees, breeding excellent, characteristic, and disease-resistant new varieties of silkworms, as well as developing efficient and labor-saving breeding techniques. Additionally, the institute conducts research on pepper physiology and biochemistry, safe and efficient cultivation, and the storage and deep processing of pepper products. The institute currently employs 126 staff members.
The institute operates 6 research and innovation platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Silkworm Genome Biology-Guizhou Plateau Ecological Sericulture Experimental Center, Guiyang Comprehensive Experimental Station of National Sericulture Industry System, Zunyi Comprehensive Experimental Station of National Characteristic Vegetable Industry System, Guizhou Pepper Industry Technology System, Guizhou Pepper Breeding and Cultivation Engineering Technology Research Center, and Guizhou Pepper Germplasm Resource Mid-term Bank, with stations in Guiyang, Zunyi, Huishui, and Sanya.
