The Sericulture Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) was founded in 1936. It is mainly engaged in the selection and breeding of new varieties of high-quality and high-yielding silkworms, mulberries, and pastures, as well as research on supporting breeding technologies, labor-saving machinery, and promotion.
The institute has jurisdiction over several specialized research laboratories and centers:
- Silkworm Genetic Breeding and Biotechnology Research Laboratory
- Mulberry Genetic Breeding and Variety Resources Research Laboratory
- Sericulture Machinery Facilities and Equipment Research Laboratory
- Silkworm Disease and Silkworm Drug Research Laboratory
- Animal Husbandry Research Center of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences
- Sichuan Sericulture Technology Development Corporation
