The Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) – 四川省农业科学院 is a comprehensive agricultural research institution with over 80 years of history. It organizes agricultural science and technology collaborative research, develops new agricultural technologies, demonstrates and transfers scientific achievements, and provides technical training and outreach. The academy also engages in the management and implementation of agricultural science and technology projects, along with domestic and international scientific cooperation, exchange, and technology trade.
The academy currently has 18 research institutes and one institute-level scientific research and security organization, including a branch in Hainan. Its research fields cover grain, economic and feeding crops, livestock and aquatic products, and over 80 disciplines, such as crop and animal genetic breeding, cultivation, plant protection, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, soil and fertilizer, resources and environment, agricultural microorganisms, biotechnology, nuclear agronomy, sericulture, and more. The academy hosts numerous international, national, ministerial, and provincial scientific research platforms, with some established in Hainan. It has also built 14 research and test bases across various locations, including Nanchong, Mianyang, Panzhihua, and others in Sichuan, Hainan, and Yunnan. The academy employs 1,652 staff members, including 202 senior experts, 374 deputy senior experts, and 310 doctoral and 596 master’s degree holders.
