The Sichuan Agricultural Characteristics Plant Research Institute at the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) currently has 72 employees. The institute is mainly responsible for the investigation, research, development, and utilization of plant resources such as energy plants, flower plants, fruit plants, and medicinal plants, along with their conservation work. It has two scientific research bases, the Zizhong Experimental Station and the Chengdu Experimental Base, where in-depth research is conducted in plant genetics and breeding, physiology and biochemistry, soil chemistry, plant protection, analytical testing, molecular biology, and agricultural product processing. The institute has collected more than 800 plant germplasm resources, with over 20,000 specimens conserved and bred, including parent materials, characteristic (rare) fruits, flowers, vegetables, and Chinese medicinal materials. Additionally, it has cultivated 14 new plant (crop) varieties.
