Sorghum Research Institute

The Dry Grain (Sorghum) Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences dates back to the Guizhou Provincial Agricultural Experiment Field, which was established in 1929. The institute has 56 employees and includes the Maize Research Office, Molecular Biotechnology Research Office, Wheat Research Office, Sorghum Research Office, Mixed Grain Research Office, and Tillage and Cultivation Research Office, as well as experimental land, including a 13.67-hectare breeding seed base in Hainan Ledong Yi Autonomous County, Jiushe Town, Guizhou.

The institute is committed to the selection and breeding of new varieties of dry grain crops and their introduction, supporting seed production technology, and high-yield and high-quality cultivation techniques. It also focuses on the collection, collation, preservation, genetic screening, identification, and utilization of beneficial germplasm for dry grain crops, as well as research on fresh food and feed use of corn. The institute conducts quality analysis and testing, monitoring, and standardization of dry grain crops, as well as food processing research. Since 2011, it has gradually expanded research into the collection, organization, identification, and utilization of resources like Coix lacryma and millet.
