The State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Biology for Arid Areas originated from the Shaanxi Province Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology for Agriculture, which was established on June 28, 2001. The laboratory focuses on crop stress resistance in arid regions of China, leveraging the unique resources of these environments to identify stress-tolerant crop germplasm and apply modern biological technologies to study the mechanisms of crop responses to abiotic stress, as well as interactions between crops, diseases, and pests.
A key objective of the laboratory is to develop new crop varieties with enhanced stress tolerance, broad adaptability, high yield, and improved quality. The laboratory actively collaborates with Purdue University and has established a joint research center to advance research in this field.
