The Tea Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences was founded in September 1939. Initially located in Meijiang Town, Meitan County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, the institute moved to the Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Huaxi District, Guiyang City, in 2009.
The institute comprises the Meitan Base Office, the Tea Industry Science and Technology Service Center, and five research laboratories: Resource Breeding and Cultivation Research Laboratory, Pest Control Research Laboratory, Tea Making Research Laboratory, Molecular Biology Laboratory, and Central Laboratory. Research teams focus on tea tree resource breeding, cultivation, tea processing, plant protection, tea chemistry, and molecular biology and germplasm research. The institute currently employs 170 staff members and plays a vital role in tea technology training, scientific and technological poverty alleviation, and offering technical services throughout the province. It provides essential scientific support for the development and sustainable growth of Guizhou’s tea industry.
