Tibet Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences (TAAAS)

The Tibet Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences (TAAAS) is the only comprehensive agricultural, animal husbandry, and fishery scientific research institution in Tibet. It integrates scientific research, technology promotion, development, training, consultation, and services. The academy is responsible for addressing critical, strategic, and overarching agricultural and animal husbandry science and technology issues in the region, providing essential support for modern agricultural and animal husbandry development. Currently, the academy has 1,015 employees.

TAAAS has eight professional research institutes: Agricultural Research Institute, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute, Vegetable Research Institute, Agricultural Products Quality Standards and Testing Research Institute, Grassland Science Research Institute, Agricultural Resources and Environment Research Institute, Fisheries Science Research Institute, and Agricultural Products Development and Food Science Research Institute.

The academy operates four laboratories and two engineering centers, including the National Key Laboratory of Highland Barley Yak Germplasm Resources and Genetic Improvement, which is jointly built with MARA. It also has six observation and monitoring experimental stations, including the Tibet Scientific Observation and Experiment Station for Crop Gene Resources and Germplasm Creation of MARA, five positions within the national modern agricultural industry technology system, and 14 comprehensive experimental stations. Additionally, there are 12 regional experimental and technological demonstration bases, including the Lhasa National Agricultural Science and Technology Park and the Tibetan Highland Barley Breeding and Southern Propagation Base, which have been built or are under construction. Efforts are underway to establish five comprehensive scientific research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Research, to strengthen scientific and technological innovation for agriculture and animal husbandry on the Tibetan Plateau.
