Vegetable Research Institute

The Vegetable Research Institute of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GXAAS) was founded in 1996. The institute primarily focuses on basic and applied research related to vegetable germplasm collection, identification, evaluation, and innovative utilization. It also conducts research on breeding technology innovation, high-yield, high-quality, and multi-resistant new vegetable varieties, as well as the molecular mechanisms and functional genes associated with important agronomic traits. Other areas of study include nutritional physiology, growth regulation, post-harvest preservation and storage, and the development of key technologies to improve industry quality and efficiency.

The institute has nine research teams specializing in different types of vegetables, including bitter melon, tomato and eggplant, winter melon, pepper, pumpkin and melon, leafy vegetables, cucumber, vegetable beans (edible beans), and aquatic vegetables.

Currently, the institute employs 78 staff members.
