The Wheat Research Institute of Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS) was established in 2009. It is a professional scientific research institution integrating wheat germplasm resource screening, evaluation and innovation, new wheat variety breeding, hybrid wheat research, wheat stripe rust genetic diversity control, wheat water-efficient utilization, and related production technology research and development, as well as scientific and technological consulting. There are currently three research laboratories: winter wheat research laboratory, spring wheat research laboratory, and molecular breeding research laboratory. There are two experimental stations: Qingshui and Huangyang.
The institute has 8 research and development platforms, including the Tianshui Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Wheat Industry Technology System, the National Crop Variety Display and Evaluation Base, the Gansu Wheat Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Qingshui Wheat Industry Technology Research Institute of Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS). The Wheat Research Institute currently has 23 employees.
The institute attaches great importance to academic exchanges and has established long-term cooperative relations with domestic and foreign scientific research and teaching institutions such as CIMMYT, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University.
