Wheat Research Institute

Founded in 1984 in Dujiangyan, the Wheat Research Institute of Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) relocated to the Chengdu campus following the 2008 earthquake. The institute currently employs 28 faculty members.

Since its establishment, the institute has systematically collected and cataloged wheat species resources both domestically and globally. It has created a comprehensive wheat germplasm resource gene bank and herbarium, preserving over 10,000 wheat germplasm samples from 30 genera and 400 species of the Triticum family. Additionally, 5,063 specimens from 364 species across 30 genera have been digitized, including 29 type specimens. The institute focuses on researching the evolutionary biology of wheat species, discovering gene resources, and innovatively utilizing germplasm resources.
