Yuzhong High Altitude cold zone Experimental Station

The Yuzhong High Cold Agricultural Experiment Station of Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS) is located in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. The test and seedling base spans an area of 2,180 mu and employs 58 staff members.

This station serves as a crucial support for the rural base of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the central alpine region of Gansu Province. It plays a key role in alpine agricultural science and technology experiments, demonstration, and technology promotion.

For many years, the Yuzhong Horticultural Experimental Field has been primarily focused on apple production demonstration, while also undertaking fruit tree scientific research, experimental demonstration, and promotion in the arid areas of central Gansu. The station has successfully selected and bred new apple varieties (lines) and introduced and promoted more than 50 high-quality apple varieties across the province. Additionally, the renovation and renewal of old orchards and the cultivation technology for apple replanting have provided valuable guidance for apple production in the region.

Currently, the Yuzhong Experimental Base collaborates with the Institute of Forestry, Fruit and Flowers, the Institute of Potatoes, and the Institute of Plant Protection to carry out relevant scientific research and experimental station construction. Other research units, such as the Institute of Dryland Agriculture, the Institute of Livestock, Grass and Green Agriculture, and the Institute of Cash Crops and Beer Raw Materials, also conduct various scientific research projects at the Yuzhong Experimental Base.
