The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute of Jiangxi Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JXAAS) was founded in 1975. The institute focuses on genetic breeding of livestock and poultry, animal nutrition, the development and utilization of animal feed resources, pasture germplasm resources, protection, and innovative use of aquaculture, and animal disease prevention and control. Additionally, it conducts research, demonstration, and popularization of livestock genetic breeding, animal nutrition, feed resource development and utilization, pasture germplasm resource excavation, protection and innovative utilization, and aquaculture.
The institute has 69 employees.
The institute’s research departments include poultry breeding and healthy breeding, animal nutrition and feed, pig breeding and healthy breeding, veterinary medicine and safe environment, aquaculture, herbivore, and pasture.

In recent years, the institute has introduced several national livestock and poultry breeds such as Yushan Black Pig, Dongxiang Flowery Pig, Ningdu Yellow Chicken, Chongren Sesame Chicken, Taihe Black Chicken, Xingguo Gray Goose, and Ji’an Red Duck, making significant contributions to the development of animal and poultry breeding technology, local feed resources, research on local chicken and poultry leukemia, and efficient utilization of local feed resources.
