Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CQAAS) – 重庆市农业科学院 is located in the core area of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, Baishiyi. Established in 2005, it has 15 professional research institutes, 10 functional departments, and 620 employees.
The academy focuses on research in high-quality rice breeding for high-temperature zones, high oil-content oilseed rape breeding, fresh glutinous corn breeding, processing chili breeding, and needle-shaped famous tea research.
Each year, CQAAS organizes over 300 national industrial service expert groups and industry specialists to work with villages, enterprises, and farm households. It fosters regional industrial development through collaborative innovation, partnering with institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences to advance key agricultural technologies.
Within the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, CQAAS leads the construction of a modern agricultural belt and has established the Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance. It has played a key role in building:
- Agricultural Science City in Tongnan District
- Alpine Vegetable Demonstration Area in Wulong District
- Dianjiang County into a national “big seed county” for seed production
CQAAS also actively participates in the Belt and Road Initiative, establishing agricultural research and experimental demonstration bases in Tanzania and Bangladesh. It has successfully completed China’s Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center project in Tanzania.
