The Crop Research Institute of Fujian Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) (Fujian Germplasm Resource Center) was established in 1978. The institute primarily focuses on the genetic breeding and green ecological and efficient cultivation technology of dryland grain and oil crops (such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, maize, soybeans, peanuts), vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, and the collection and preservation of agricultural biomass resources, as well as their appraisal and innovative utilization.
The institute has 83 employees and operates several national, provincial, and ministerial innovation platforms, such as:
- Fuzhou Branch Center for Testing New Plant Varieties of MARA
- Regional Experiment Station for National Crop Varieties
- National Original Seed Expansion Base for Fresh Food Specialty Corn
- National Original Seed Expansion Base for Leafy Vegetables Specialty Sweet Potato
- Southern Potato Scientific Observatory and Experiment Station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs
- Agricultural Biological Germplasm Resource Bank of Fujian Province (under construction)
- Key Laboratory of Vegetable Genetics of Fujian Province
- Fujian Provincial Seed R&D Public Service Platform (under construction)
- Fujian Provincial Crop Breeding Digitalization Platform (under construction)
- Fujian Provincial Specialty Dry Crop Breeding Engineering and Technology Research Center
- Fujian Provincial Specialty Flower Engineering and Technology Research Center
- Fujian Provincial Vegetable Engineering and Technology Research Center
In addition, the institute, in collaboration with the Rice Institute, is building the Fujian-Taiwan Ministry of Agriculture, MARA Key Open Laboratory for Utilization of Agricultural Crop Germplasm Resources, Fujian Scientific Observatory of Crop Genetic Resources and Germplasm Creation of the MARA, and the Fujian Crop Molecular Breeding Engineering Laboratory.
The institute has a scientific research and test base of more than 600 hectares, 5,000 square meters of laboratories, and 60,000 square meters of smart greenhouses.
