The Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) – 福建省农业科学院 was founded in 1960. The academy now has 14 research institutes specializing in tea, rice, crops, fruit trees, edible mushrooms, subtropical agriculture, plant protection, resource environment and soil fertilizer, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, biotechnology, agricultural quality standards and testing technology, agricultural product processing, agricultural economics and scientific and technological information, and digital agriculture. Additionally, the academy has two major scientific research institutes: the Fuzhou Shudou Campus and Preah Vihear Campus, along with two large-scale scientific research test bases, the Jian’ou base and the Fuan Shekou base. The academy has also established six regional branch institutes in Nanping, Putian, Zhangzhou, Ningde, Longyan, and Quanzhou in cooperation with regional municipalities.
The academy boasts 118 scientific and technological innovation platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels and has 952 employees.
FAAS focuses on applied research and applied basic research, with strong scientific and technological capabilities in crop breeding and cultivation, including rice, fruit trees, tea, potatoes, and edible mushrooms. The academy is also known for its work in waterfowl disease prevention and control, plant protection, agricultural microbial utilization, ecological agriculture, soil fertilizers, and Fujian-Taiwan Agricultural Cooperation.
