The Institute of Biotechnology of Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CQAAS) is primarily focused on crop molecular-assisted breeding, cell engineering, genetic engineering, abiotic stress physiology and ecology, agricultural applications of microbial research, and the rapid breeding of special economic crops using seedling group culture techniques. The institute also manages physiology and biochemistry, biotechnology, and agricultural key laboratories, including the operation and management of large-scale instrumentation sharing.
The institute has five research laboratories specializing in molecular biology, cell engineering, biotechnology applications, adversity physiology and ecology, and plant variety testing. In collaboration with the Institute of Biology, it is home to several provincial and ministerial-level science and technology innovation platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Evaluation and Utilization of Germplasm Resources of Southwest Mountain Specialty Crops of MARA, the Key Laboratory of Adverse Agricultural Research of Chongqing Municipality, and the Sub-center for Testing New Plant Varieties of MARA.
The institute has 16 employees.
