The Institute of Resources, Environment and Soil Fertilizer of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) was established in 2023, resulting from the integration of the Soil Fertilizer Research Institute of FAAS, the former Institute of Agricultural Ecology, and the Agricultural Microbial Research Center. The institute focuses on agricultural resources and environmental research, agro-ecological protection, soil and water conservation, soil and farmland quality, plant nutrition and fertilizers, ecological recycling agriculture, green manure, agricultural microorganisms, agrochemicals and seed quality testing, soil and environmental monitoring and evaluation, agricultural and animal husbandry waste resource utilization, and ecological planning.
The institute has 95 employees and operates various research laboratories, including the Soil Resources Research Laboratory, Plant Nutrition Research Laboratory, Fertilizer Research Laboratory, Agricultural Microbiology Research Laboratory, Grass Research Laboratory, Agricultural Environmental Research Laboratory, Recycling Agricultural Research Laboratory, Cultivation Ecology Research Laboratory, Bacillus Research Center, and Soil and Fertilizer Testing and Technology Center.
In addition, the institute has 19 scientific and technological innovation platforms, such as the National Red Pimpernel Germplasm Nursery (Fuzhou), Fujian Provincial Green Fertilizer Germplasm Resource Bank (Nursery), Fujian Cultivated Land Conservation Scientific Observatory Experimental Station of MARA, Southeast Regional Agricultural Microbial Resource Utilization Scientific Observatory of MARA, and Fuzhou Agricultural Environment Scientific Observatory Experimental Station. It also operates the National Grass Varieties Regional Experimental Station (Jianyang Xikou) and several engineering and technology research centers, including the Fujian Agricultural Biopharmaceutical Engineering and Technology Research Center and the Microbial Fungicide Development and Application of the State Local Joint Engineering Research Center.
The institute also manages key laboratories, such as the Key Laboratory of Mycorrhizal Microorganisms, the Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizers in Fujian Province, and the Key Laboratory of Agroecological Processes in Red Soil Mountainous Areas in Fujian Province, along with two engineering laboratories and two accredited testing platforms, including the Soil & Fertilizer Testing & Technology Center (CMA accredited) and the Green Fertilizer & Seed Quality Inspection Center (CASL accredited).
