Institute of Subtropical Agriculture

The Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of Fujian Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS), formerly known as the Fujian Provincial Sugar Cane Experiment Station, was established in 1958. The institute has 45 employees.

It mainly focuses on research related to subtropical fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, spices, medicinal plants, and other germplasm resources. This includes the collection, identification, species selection, cultivation, processing, facilities and equipment, as well as industrialization research. The institute also conducts research on sugar cane, yellow and red hemp selection, and their comprehensive utilization.

The institute is home to the Fujian-Taiwan specialty crop germplasm resource nursery, the national sugar industry technology system Zhangzhou comprehensive experimental station, the national hemp industry technology system, and the Zhangzhou yellow/red hemp experimental station. Additionally, it supports the native vegetable industry technology public service platform for Fujian province. The institute has an experimental field of 67 hectares and a smart greenhouse covering 6000 square meters.
