Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JXAAS)

Founded in 1934, Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JXAAS) – 江西省农业科学院, is a key agricultural research institution located in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The academy consists of 12 professional research institutes, including the Rice Research Institute, Crop Research Institute, Soil Fertilizer and Resources and Environment Research Institute, Plant Protection Research Institute, Horticulture Research Institute, Vegetable and Flower Research Institute, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute, Agricultural Economics and Information Research Institute, Agricultural Product Quality and Safety and Standards Research Institute, Agricultural Application of Microbiological Research Institute, Agricultural Engineering Research Institute, and Agricultural Products Processing Research Institute.

JXAAS also houses specialized institutions such as the Jiangxi Super Rice Research and Development Center and the Jinggangshan Red Soil Research Development Center, among others. Additionally, it has eight local branches located in Pingxiang, Ganzhou, Jiujiang, Jinggangshan, Yichun, Nanchang, Shangrao, and Fuzhou.

The academy is home to two national innovation platforms: the National Engineering Research Center for Rice (Nanchang) and the National Engineering Research Center for Red Soil Improvement. It also operates 44 provincial and ministerial innovation platforms, such as the Livestock and Poultry Product Quality and Safety Risk Assessment Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Nanchang) and the National Rice Breeding and Improvement Nanchang Sub-center.

In 2006, JXAAS established Jiangxi Province’s first post-doctoral agricultural research workstation. The academy is located in Nanchang, covering an area of 1,280 acres. It also operates several research bases, including a modern agricultural science and technology innovation and demonstration base spanning more than 5,900 acres in Gao’an, Jiangxi Province, a 220-acre red soil improvement research base in Dongxiang, Jiangxi Province, and a 200-acre southern propagation research base in Sanya, Hainan Province.

With a staff of 710 employees, JXAAS engages in extensive cooperation and exchanges with agricultural research institutions both domestically and internationally. It collaborates with over 20 countries and six international organizations, and has established several international cooperation platforms. These include the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base for Rice and Organic Agriculture in Jiangxi Province and the Sino-Filipino Joint Laboratory of Rice Technology.
