The Rice Research Institute of Jiangxi Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JXAAS) was established in 1984. The institute employs 90 staff members and is organized into seven research departments: the High-Quality Rice Research Office, Hybrid Rice Research Office, Dongxiang Wild Rice Research Office, Biotechnology Research Office, Japonica Rice Research Office, Industrial Technology Research Office, and the Resource Research Center.
The institute has established scientific and technological collaborations with countries such as the United States, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Ghana, and has organized 16 international rice training courses for over 200 participants.
Key platforms and research facilities at the institute include:
- The National Engineering Research Center for Rice (Nanchang)
- The MARA Key Laboratory of Germplasm Innovation and Breeding of Double-Season Rice
- The National Rice Improvement Center, Nanchang Branch
- The MARA Jiangxi Dongxiang Wild Rice Scientific Observatory and Experimental Station
- The National Wild Rice Germplasm Resources Platform (Jiangxi)
- The National Rice Industry Technology System Nanchang Experimental Station
- The National Crop Variety Validation Regional Experimental Station (Gao’an Base)
- Jiangxi Province’s Rice Germplasm Innovation and Breeding Key Laboratory
- The Dongxiang Wild Rice Research and Development Center
- Jiangxi Provincial Crop Germplasm Resource Bank
Recent research at the Rice Research Institute has focused on the innovation and breeding of double-season high-yield, high-quality rice germplasm resources, the molecular mechanisms of Dongxiang wild rice’s resistance to adversity, high-quality late rice early planting technology, rice mycorrhizal symbiosis, efficient fertilizer use, and the preservation and utilization of crop germplasm resources.
