The Rice Research Institute of Fujian Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) was founded in 1975. The institute has 86 employees.
It consists of five research sections: Rice Genetic Breeding Research Laboratory, Rice Molecular Breeding Research Laboratory, Rice Crop Technology Research Laboratory, Rice Germplasm Resources and Evaluation and Utilization Research Laboratory, and Rice Germplasm Creation Research Laboratory. As the technical support unit for food security and rice seed supply in Fujian Province, the institute primarily focuses on research related to the theory, technology, and methods of rice variety selection, the collection and preservation of local rice resources in Fujian, the introduction and evaluation of germplasm resources both domestically and internationally, the creation of new materials, and the selection and breeding of new rice varieties. It also conducts research on the establishment of a rice gene bank, the mining and utilization of genetic resources, high-efficiency cultivation techniques, mechanized farming, and the evaluation of new rice varieties through regional trials and demonstrations.
