The Sanya Research Institute (Hainan Laboratory Animal Research Center) of Hainan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HNAAS) has 173 employees. It consists of several specialized teams, including the Pig Germplasm Resources Innovation and Utilization Team, the Maize Molecular Design and Breeding Team, the Tropical Rare Fruit Tree Research Team, the Green and Efficient Industrialization of Food Engineering Team, the Tropical Wild Rice Germplasm Resources Innovation and Utilization Team, the Betel Nut Industry Chain Innovation Team, the Experimental Animal Innovation Team in Hainan Province, the Wenchang Chicken Breeding and Aquaculture Innovation Team, the Melon Research Team, the Nutrition and Healthy Hainan Innovation Team, the Plum Resource Utilization and Innovation Team, the Hainan Tea Industry to Improve the Quality and Efficiency of Science and Technology Innovation Team, the Tomato Research Team, and the Development and Utilization of Tropical Fruit Tree Resources Innovation Team.
The institute has set up the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ National Tropical Agricultural Science and Technology Achievements Transfer and Transformation Center, as well as platforms for swine germplasm resources preservation and application. The institute is also involved in key projects such as the National Tropical Agricultural Science and Technology Achievement Transfer Center, Pig Germplasm Resources Preservation and Application Innovation Platform, National Pig Germplasm Resources and Models Preservation and Breeding Base, Wuzhishan Pig Breeding Ground, National Wild Rice Germplasm Source Nursery, and the Trimeresurus Germplasm Preservation and Application Base.
