The Tea Research Institute of Fujian Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) was founded in 1935. The institute has 60 hectares of experimental fields and 61 employees.
It has research departments focusing on tea breeding, cultivation, processing, tea culture, and economic research. There are 15 scientific and technological innovation platforms, including the National Tea Tree Improvement Center Fujian Branch, National Soil Quality Observation and Experiment Station in Fu’an, Scientific Observation and Experiment Station for Tea Tree and Oolong Tea Processing in Fujian of the Ministry of Agriculture, Tea Tree Cultivation and Tea Processing Technology Service Platform of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Tea Tree Breeding Engineering and Technology Research Center of Fujian Province, and Tea Tree Germplasm Resource Sharing Platform.
The institute mainly conducts research on the collection and identification of tea germplasm resources, the selection and breeding of new varieties of highly aromatic multi-tea and special color teas, the nutrition and green cultivation of tea, R&D of green prevention and control technologies for tea pests and diseases, the development of intelligent production lines for multi-tea and special tea products, and other scientific and technological innovations and technical services.
