Vegetable and Flower Research Institute

The Vegetable and Flower Research Institute of Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CQAAS) primarily focuses on developing the vegetable, flower, and edible fungus industries. It conducts applied basic research, new variety selection and breeding, technological innovation, transformation of research outcomes, and provides technical services.

The institute has eight innovation teams specializing in chili pepper processing, lycopene vegetables, cucurbit vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, resources and germplasm creation, vegetable cultivation, flowers, and edible mushrooms. It currently employs 57 people.

The institute oversees several key research platforms, including the National Crop Vegetable Improvement Center Chongqing Branch, the National Bulk Vegetable Industry Technology System Chongqing Comprehensive Experiment Station, the Southwest Region Vegetable Science Observation Experiment Station of MARA, the Chongqing Vegetable Variety Improvement Engineering and Technology Center, the Chongqing Engineering and Technology Research Center for Food (Medicinal) Mushrooms, and the Chongqing Southern Vegetable Demonstration Base (Hainan). Additionally, the institute collaborates with provincial and ministerial-level scientific research centers, such as the Shizhu Pepper Research Institute, the Wulong Alpine Vegetable Research Institute, and the Bishan Vegetable R&D Center, as well as several technological achievement promotion platforms like the Urban Agriculture R&D Center and the Edible Mushroom Research Center.
