Institute of Agricultural Quality Standards and Testing Technology

The Institute of Agricultural Quality Standards and Testing Technology of the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was established in 2012. It is the only specialized public research institute in Xinjiang dedicated to agricultural product quality and safety. Its work focuses on scientific research in quality standards, monitoring and testing of agricultural products, inputs, and production environments, as well as risk assessment, traceability, and nutritional quality evaluation. With six innovation teams and more than 50 staff members (including 15 PhD researchers), the institute provides both research and testing services across Xinjiang and beyond.

The institute maintains over 4,000 m² of laboratory space, equipped with more than 500 instruments valued at 57 million RMB. It holds comprehensive national-level testing qualifications, covering 848 products and 4,590 parameters, with an annual capacity of over 25,000 external samples and more than 500,000 data outputs. Since 2001, it has been responsible for national and regional programs on agricultural product quality monitoring, risk assessment, and supervision.

It hosts a wide range of technical platforms, including the MARA Agricultural Product Quality Testing Center (Urumqi), the MARA Cotton Quality Testing Center (Urumqi), the MARA Agricultural Product Safety Risk Assessment Laboratory (Urumqi), and the Xinjiang Agricultural Product Safety Key Laboratory, as well as several national centers for quality evaluation, traceability, and packaging standards. Research outcomes include more than 10 major science and technology awards, patents, and standards development, along with over 200 peer-reviewed publications.
