Agricultural support policies play a crucial role in balancing food production with sustainability. In Europe, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has supported farmer incomes while aiming to protect agrobiodiversity.
This study examines CAP’s impact, highlighting gaps in evaluating its effectiveness. While providing financial support to farmers, CAP policies struggle to align income with biodiversity goals due to inadequate frameworks and limited understanding of farmer decision-making.
However, initiatives outside CAP, such as crop diversification, show promise in enhancing both environmental and economic outcomes, offering a potential path toward more sustainable agricultural policies.
