The Farmland Irrigation Research Institute (FIRI) – 农田灌溉研究所 employs 83 academic staff and is committed to applied and basic research focused on developing new technologies for farmland irrigation and drainage. Research includes:
- Crop water requirements and regulation
- New technologies for insufficient irrigation
- Unconventional water resource usage
- Optimal allocation of agricultural water resources
- Efficient water-saving irrigation technologies and equipment
- Construction and reform of water-saving irrigation districts
- Farmland drainage technologies
- Waterlogged recovery
FIRI’s research facilities include an experimental field station for crop-water interaction and a hydraulic laboratory for testing sprinkler and micro-irrigation systems
FIRI hosts the National Scientific Observation Station of Farmland Ecosystem of MoST and the Key Laboratory of MARA for Crop Water Requirement and Regulation.
It is authorized by the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) as a national center for irrigation and drainage research and as a test center for water-saving irrigation equipment.
