College of Enology

The College of Enology was established in 1994 as the first specialized college in Asia dedicated to education and research in grape science and winemaking. The college currently has 52 full-time faculty members and operates five provincial and ministerial-level scientific platforms, along with two international cooperation and exchange platforms.

Covering the entire wine production value chain, the college integrates grape science, wine engineering, and marketing into its academic programs. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and has played a key role in supporting the development of China’s wine industry. The college contributed to the introduction of China’s first national wine standard, proposed an industrial zoning layout suited to China’s continental monsoon climate, and promoted arid and semi-arid regions in northwest and western China, as well as mountainous areas in southwest China, as suitable for wine production. In recent years, approximately 600,000 mu of non-agricultural land has been converted into vineyards, helping to increase farmers’ annual incomes.

The college holds more than 40 national invention patents and has introduced three new high-quality wine grape varieties. It has established cooperative partnerships with leading wine education institutions, research centers, and enterprises worldwide. The college has set up over 40 bases in China and 16 practical teaching bases in France, Italy, Australia, and Germany.

An International Academic Grape and Wine Conference is held every April, providing a platform for global academic exchange. Additionally, the college initiated the establishment of the Silk Road Wine Science and Technology Innovation Alliance and the Silk Road Wine Research Institute.
