College of Horticulture

Established in March 2009, the College of Horticulture at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) traces its origins back to the Horticulture Division of the National Sichuan University College of Agriculture in 1933. The college is organized into the Department of Horticulture, the Department of Tea, and the Department of Facility Agricultural Science and Engineering. It currently has 73 faculty members and offers a robust academic structure with a post-doctoral research station, as well as doctoral and master’s degree programs in horticulture, fruit tree science, vegetable science, and tea science. The college serves 1,272 full-time students, including 970 undergraduates and 302 master’s and doctoral students.

Research at the college focuses on key areas such as horticultural plant germplasm improvement, fruit tree cultivation and ecology, and tea science and engineering. The college is home to significant research infrastructure, including the National Tea Quality Inspection (Sichuan) Center, established by the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. The Tibetan Tea Industry Engineering and Technology Research Center, recognized as a scientific and technological infrastructure platform in Sichuan Province, is also housed at the college, alongside resource-sharing platforms dedicated to cherries and grapes.

The college has a well-equipped laboratory area of approximately 3,400 m², 135 mu of on-campus practice bases, and 44 off-campus experimental demonstration bases supporting teaching and research. Through its commitment to academic and research excellence, the College of Horticulture at SAU has established strong international exchange and cooperation partnerships with institutions in the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
