The College of Horticulture at South China Agricultural University (SCAU) was originally founded in 1909 and underwent significant restructuring before officially being established as a college in 2001 following the reorganization of the former Department of Horticulture. The college currently employs 92 staff members, including 79 dedicated to teaching and research, comprising 25 professors, 3 researchers, and 27 associate professors. It offers undergraduate programs in protected agriculture science and engineering, horticulture, and tea science.
Within horticulture, key areas of study include pomology, vegetable science, ornamental horticulture, horticultural biotechnology, horticultural product storage and circulation, and seed science and engineering. The tea science program encompasses tea cultivation, tea processing and trade, as well as brand marketing. The college features 8 advanced undergraduate laboratories, 5,500 m² of research laboratory space, and nearly 200 mu of on-campus teaching and research facilities, including three greenhouses. Additionally, it collaborates with 28 off-campus practice bases, notably the national-level SCAU Zhanjiang Lychee Longan Agricultural Science Education Training Base.
