Guangxi Subtropical Crops Research Center

The Guangxi Subtropical Crops Research Center of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GXAAS) was established in 1952. The center is primarily engaged in the collection and preservation of tropical and subtropical crop germplasm resources, seed selection and breeding, productive cultivation, agricultural product processing, and quality and safety risk assessment, inspection, and testing.

It has established germplasm resource nurseries and test bases for various crops such as cassava, mango, macadamia, sisal, longan, lychee, sugarcane, papaya, pineapple, honey, guava, and poplar. These bases cover approximately 100 hectares and have introduced and preserved 4,100 crop varieties, making it one of China’s most significant preservation bases for tropical and subtropical crop germplasm resources. The institute also serves as a key base for the popularization of science and technology education.

The Guangxi Subtropical Crops Research Institute is composed of 12 research centers, including the Mango Research Center, Nut Research Center, and Fruit Research Center. It also hosts three national research laboratories, two national comprehensive experimental stations, and two national demonstration and promotion bases for the introduction of foreign intellectual achievements. In addition, the institute is home to the MARA Subtropical Fruit and Vegetable Quality Inspection and Testing Center, the MARA Quality and Safety Risk Assessment Laboratory (Nanning), and several other high-level scientific research platforms. The institute currently employs 295 people.
