The Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Agriculture of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Chengdu Agricultural Remote Sensing Branch Center) was established in 1984. It was one of the three largest agricultural remote sensing centers in China at the time and is currently the southwest branch center of China’s National Agricultural Remote Sensing Application Center.
With the support of the National Agricultural Remote Sensing Application and Training Program, the Chengdu Agricultural Remote Sensing Branch Center has trained a large number of professional talents for Sichuan’s agriculture, forestry, environmental protection, land, geology and mining, surveying, and mapping sectors, as well as related research institutions. Over the past three decades, the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Agriculture has received assistance from international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Program, and the European Economic Community (EEC), as well as from domestic agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and provincial departments related to finance, science and technology, agriculture, planning, and land.
The institute has developed into an agricultural high-tech research and application institution, supported by a multidisciplinary team with strong scientific research and development capabilities. It is equipped with advanced remote sensing, geographic information systems, and computer application technologies.
