The Urumqi Comprehensive Experimental Station, established in 1959, is one of Xinjiang’s oldest research and demonstration bases under the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It focuses on breeding and introduction of new varieties for arid regions, efficient and sustainable cultivation technologies, agro-product development, and standardized cattle and sheep farming. The station also provides training and science education, and has been recognized as a National Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Zone (2000) and as part of the Urumqi National Agricultural Science and Technology Park (2013).
The station hosts several innovation platforms, including the Central Asia Potato Industry Research Center, a sub-center of the National Small Berry Engineering Research Center, and facilities for horticultural engineering, potato and forage resources, fresh corn processing, and medicinal plants. It manages nearly 9,700 mu (≈ 647 ha) of land, including 300 mu (≈ 20 ha) for germplasm resources, maintaining over 5,000 accessions of potatoes, vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, berries, and forages.
With 68 staff members, including 23 with PhD or Master’s degrees and 36 senior experts, it supports six national and regional agricultural technology system test stations.
