Founded in 1905, China Agricultural University (CAU) – 中国农业大学 – is China’s oldest institution of higher education specializing in agriculture. The university president is directly appointed by the central government. Today, CAU is among China’s top-ranked universities and consistently ranks highly in global university rankings for agricultural sciences, including the Shanghai Ranking. In the QS World University Rankings, CAU holds 11th place among the world’s leading universities for forestry and agriculture.
As of 2024, CAU had a total enrollment of 22,167 students, including 312 international students (1.4%). Of these, 12,204 are undergraduate students, while 9,963 are graduate students, with 290 (2.9%) coming from international backgrounds. The university spans a 157-hectare campus.
